The extraordinary efforts of Pete Roberts,
The famous “Twisted Wheel” has now reopened its doors to fans of northern soul,R&B and sixties sounds from the clubs heyday. All this is due to the extraordinary efforts of Pete Roberts, it has taken over two years of constant hard work, harassment and whatever else Pete could do to get to this point today, along the way there has been many setbacks , one being after getting the then lease holder to go ahead with “Wheel nights” march 2002 (turns out that he did not have the finance to carry on and infact had to give the lease up due to debts) so after only a few nights the doors closed again so Pete was back to square one. Pete set about finding the new owners and contacted them the first chance he got. unfortunately this first meeting did not go well and was given short shift, not deterred by this Pete went down there every week to try and change their minds, things became very heated will threats and other unpleasantness, at one Point Pete saying “the only way you will get rid of me is to shoot me” and I think it was at this time having talked to Pete the he was beginning to think he would never see the club reopen, however he was about to hear some encouraging news. On a visit to a wood yard he bumped into a joiner collecting timber for a job at 6 Whitworth st, Pete went over there and found a foreman who told him that the club was reopening after all. So all his hard work had paid off
