Wigan Today
Wigan's Northern Soul reunion is coming back even bigger and better in 2009. Following the huge success of last year's event on the former site of the world famous Wigan Casino – now part of the Grand Arcade – the event will return this summer.
And as well as the old "All Nighter" Northern Soul classics such as The Servicemen's Sweet Magic and Soul Brothers Pyramid, there will be a twist to this year's event.
For the first time, Motown legends such as Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross and The Jackson Five will also be jostling for turntable space.
A spokesman for the Grand Arcade said: "The first late-night party extravaganza in 2007 was a massive success, with a couple even flying in from Australia to be part of the scene.
"Last year celebrated the 35th anniversary of the heart and soul all nighters and the event was bigger, louder and better, with guest DJ Ginger Taylor, the Casino's founder DJ Russ Winstanley and live performances from The Flirtations.
"Due to the success of the night, it was decided that Wigan Casino Night should become an annual event.
"Northern Soul v Motown" will take place at the Grand Arcade on Saturday, August 28, Bank Holiday weekend from 8.30pm to 4am.
Tickets go on sale soon.

Edwin Starr
" I am sure that a great many US artists would pay homage to the UK Northern Soul Scene. It has allowed us to still have some place to be."
- The Late Edwin Starr
Frank Wilson – Do I love you (indeed I do) Probably seen as the quintessential Northern Soul track, this tune ticks all the right boxes. An original vinyl of this track once sold for £15,000
